Arab attackers targeted Jews marking the Passover holiday in Jerusalem on Monday. Other rock attacks were reported elsewhere, as well, including one perpetrated by Jewish youths targeting Palestinian Authority vehicles.

Local Arabs had expected and prepared an ambush for the Jewish worshipers.

On Monday morning, the fourth of five intermediate days of the Passover holiday, an Arab mob threw large rocks and other items at a vehicle caravan of Jews seeking to pray overlooking the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The three-vehicle caravan was accompanying Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch, a leading judge of the non-state Hareidi rabbinical court system, on an annual Passover pilgrimage to offer special prayers atop Mount Scopus.

The cars were seriously damaged, but there were no injuries reported in the attack in the capital's Abu Tor neighborhood. The Ladaat online Hareidi-religious news site reported that eyewitnesses said it appeared that the local Arabs had expected and prepared an ambush for the Jewish worshipers.

Many rabbinical leaders and other Jewish tourists make their way to the Mount Scopus area, overlooking the Temple Mount, and to Jerusalem's Old City on the Jewish festivals. The Biblical festivals were celebrated by mass pilgrimages to the Jerusalem Temple, which stood on the Temple Mount, now under Muslim religious control.

The same day as the Abu Tor stoning, other Jewish pilgrims to Jerusalem suffered Arab attacks as well. In one incident, Arab youths threw rocks at visitors near the Herod's Gate (Flowers Gate) entrance into the Old City. Undercover police officers operating in the area arrested three Arab youths in connection with the attack.

Later in the day, a 45-year-old Arab from Israel's north was taken in for questioning by police after suspicious behavior inside the Old City. The man is believed to have been planning to harm Jewish visitors to the Western Wall. Several visitors complained to police that the man was following them, taking pictures and yelling at them that they are not wanted in the area.

Elsewhere, Palestinian Authority Arabs threw rocks at an Israeli car driving near Hevron on Monday morning. The incident occurred near the Beit Hanoun area. No casualties were reported, but the car sustained damage.

In an Arab neighborhood in the city of Ramla, two policemen were stoned by attackers and injured during a routine patrol. The officers were evacuated for medical treatment and additional forces were called to the area to search for the perpetrators.

In a far more rare event, police are investigating reports that Israeli youngsters threw stones at cars bearing Palestinian Authority license plates Monday evening. The attacks were perpetrated on Highway 55 near the Samaria Jewish community of Shevut Ami, according to the News One website. No injuries were reported in the incident.
