An Israeli man vacationing in Sinai was stabbed in the face on Monday by a Libyan national. The attack took place in the resort town of Nueiba.

The Israeli tourist was taken to Yoseftal Hospital in Eilat for treatment. He received stitches and was released in good condition.

The attacker fled, and has not yet been located. Police announced that the stabbing was criminally motivated and was unrelated to terrorist threats.

Few Israelis have traveled to the Sinai Peninsula over the Passover vacation compared to previous years. Tourism is thought to be down primarily due to fears of terrorism in the area, fears that were exacerbated by the recent capture of a cell of Hizbullah terrorists in the region.

The Hizbullah cell is suspected of planning attacks on Israeli tourists in Sinai.
