Aside from acquiring the power to make socio-political decisions which could impact the course of Israeli history and mean the difference between life and death for millions throughout the state, Israel's next prime minister will receive a handsome budget for needs ranging from newspapers to neckties.

Israel's next prime minister will earn a salary of NIS 41,000 a month, the use of a special prime ministerial apartment on Balfour Street in Jerusalem, and unlimited phone, car, and chauffeur use.  Daily newspapers will also be delivered.

As for the prime minister's spouse - hosting, office, worker, car and chauffeur budgets are in place to provide assistance in being Israel's First Lady, to the tune of 1 million shekels a year.

Included in that amount is the cost of the prime minister's spouse's clothes.  Thanks to the Israeli taxpayer, the pair will represent Israel in style, with a combined annual clothing allowance of NIS 45,000.

The outgoing prime minister will also leave with parting gifts. Ehud Olmert will receive NIS 36,920 monthly, a figure based on his total years of service as Prime Minister, government minister, and Knesset Member. On top of this pension, Olmert will be eligible for NIS 10,400 in phone bills and newspaper costs, as well as a free office, aides, secretaries, and a chauffeur for 5 years. Initial reports suggest Olmert has selected an office in a Tel Aviv skyscraper.
