      Antiquities Thief Caught Red Handed - But Thousands Succeed

      Guides from Kfar Etzion caught an Arab antiquities thief red handed but most ancient graves are pillaged before experts reach them.

      Here's one lucrative profession the average Jewish mother does not want her son to enter: grave robbery. Arab mothers may be a different story however: archaeological theft is a popular vocation for Arabs throughout Israel and the damage to antiquities is tremendous.

      The robbers know that the ancients used to bury their dead with jewelry. Once a burial site is found, they strip it of the archaeological finds. "This is a real plague," an expert says. "Entire sites, inside and outside the Green Line, are destroyed completely by antiquity thieves who come every night."

      In a rare success story, however, the guides from the Kfar Etzion Field School caught an Arab grave robber in the act. View the story on video in the Israel National TV report.
