The Orthodox Union is calling on U.S. President-elect Barack Obama to honor America's commitment to move its embassy to Israel's capital city, Jerusalem.

Some 250 delegates and other participants attending the OU's National Convention are planning to gather on Thursday afternoon at the site approved by the U.S. Congress for the American Embassy in Jerusalem.

The event, to be held at 2:30 p.m. at Tzameret Allenby, at the intersection of Derech Hevron and Hanoch Albeck Streets, will call attention to the fact that the U.S. has not yet fulfilled its promise to move its embassy to Israel's capital.

Participants will gather there after an all-day tour of the various communities located along the Jerusalem seam line, said OU President Stephen Savitsky.  He will read aloud a statement proclaiming the day's slogan, "Jerusalem, Keep it One, Keep it Ours."

The seam line is the demarcation line that divided the two halves of Jerusalem from each other prior to 1967, when the city was reunited during the Six Day War.

"We are presenting this statement from Diaspora Jewry, as a representative of more than 800 Orthodox Jewish synagogues that collectively feel that Jerusalem is the international capital of the Jewish people," Savitsky told Israel National News. "As such, it should remain forever undivided…. We are presenting this petition particularly in this place because we feel that the recognition of this site is an important statement to make to the world."

Former Israel Ambassador to the U.S. Danny Ayalon is also expected to speak at the event.
