As first announced by a Hamas website, a new Arabic satellite TV station focused on the Palestinian Authority is beginning full broadcasts Tuesday. The Beirut-based station, called Al-Quds TV, is a Syrian project.

A vehicle to spread the message of those PA terrorist factions in Syria's good graces.

Al-Quds satellite TV was established under the auspices of the Al-Quds International Institution, a foundation established in Damascus dedicated to promoting Arab propaganda regarding Israel's capital, Jerusalem. Analysts from the Israel- and US-based Institute of Terrorism Research and Response see Al-Quds TV primarily as a vehicle to spread the message of those PA terrorist factions in Syria's good graces, beyond what was possible through local broadcasts and Internet websites.

In addition to politics and news, the new station will also show dramas, documentaries and interactive programs, according to producers. Al-Quds TV's Director General Nabil al-Otaibi said topics covered in the broadcasts will touch on political, historical, geographical, social, cultural, economic, scientific, arts and sports issues.

After over seven months of trial broadcasts over Nilesat and Arabsat, Otaibi said that the station would aim for unity among PA factions and seek to become the "first choice" for Arab viewers. He added that the new station would "correct misconceptions" about the PA in the Arab world and beyond.
