Among those opposing the release of murderer Samir Kuntar in the impending deal with Hizbullah are the people dedicated to the release of Ron Arad, the IAF navigator who was shot down in Lebanon in 1986.
Attorney Elad Shraga, Chairman of "Born for Freedom," the organization for freeing Ron Arad, reminded the viewers of Israel National News TV Wednesday that Kuntar was supposed to be part of an earlier deal for Ron Arad, but Hizbullah never carried that deal out.
Four years ago, Shraga said, the government released two senior Lebanese prisoners – sheikhs Dirani and Ubeid – who were "the most important chips toward the return of Ron Arad."
"The government promised that this would be the first stage of the deal," Shraga said, "and [in] the second stage of the deal – in return for getting information about Ron Arad, we will release the terrorist Kuntar… This is wrong, when the government promises something it needs to keep its promises."
The deal for releasing Goldwasser and Regev needs to be done "with… other cards, not with the same cards that belonged to Ron," Shraga said.
