The police have confirmed charges by Jewish residents in Hevron that leftists who come to the city to demonstrate are antagonistic and more dangerous than the right wing, officials told the Hebrew website of the Yediot Aharonot newspaper Monday. "Extreme leftists antagonize settlers in the hope that the settlers will attack them [and] they have become an even greater threat than the anarchists," according to an unnamed police official stationed in Judea and Samaria.

Tensions have grown between Hevron Jews and left wing organizations, such as Bnai Avraham, committed to "disturbing" Jewish presence in Hevron. Hevron police district commander Avshalom Peled told the newspaper, "From my experience in the Hevron and Gush Etzion area, the activity on the part of the militant left can be severe and dangerous."

The report echoes complaints of Jewish communities in the southern Hevron Hills, where foreign and local leftist routinely trespass on Jewish fields on the Sabbath and antagonize residents. They prefer the Sabbath because of restrictions against Jews' driving and using camera on the day of rest, although most area rabbis have approved these actions by security personnel in many cases.
Relations between Jews in Hevron and the police have improved after years of disputes, but leftist anarchist activity has prompted several clashes.
Security officers in southern Hevron Hills communities have stated several times that the leftists fabricate stories and then issue false reports to the media and to the police. Last year, radical leftists, led by a leader of the Rabbis for Human Rights group, raided Jewish fields and pulled thousands of saplings out of the ground, including one incident in front of hundreds of grade school students who were celebrating Tu B'Shevat, the Jewish holiday which marks the New Year for Trees.
