PA Rockets Hit Sderot Homes, Three Civilians Badly Injured

Hamas claims it attacked civilians in revenge for killing of nine Arabs in Gaza, when in fact the Arabs were Fatah men killed by Hamas itself

Gil Ronen and Nissan Ratzlav-Katz,

A 45-year-old resident of Sderot was gravely injured Tuesday evening when a rocket fired from Gaza hit her home in Sderot. She was injured in the head and stomach. Her son, who was in the house with her, was injured also: his injuries are defined as "moderately serious." Two other people who were in the house were lightly injured, and others are suffering from shock.

One rocket scored a direct hit on 'Gil' elementary school.

In a separate attack Tuesday night, a Sderot man was moderately wounded by shrapnel. Four bystanders suffered from shock. Yehuda Shoshan, Director of Magen David Adom in the Negev, said the injured were all taken to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon for treatment.

Terrorists have launched nearly 20 rockets at Sderot and nearby towns Tuesday night, and are threatening to launch dozens more. Two rockets landed in open fields near the city. One rocket scored a direct hit on 'Gil' elementary school, but the school was already empty of children. Other rockets tore up areas outside several Negev kibbutzim. PA terrorists also fired two mortar rounds at a kibbutz near Gaza. The rounds landed in an open field without causing injuries or damage.

At least two homes have been severly damaged in Sderot and a fire broke out at Kibbutz Or HaNer as a result of the PA rocket barrage.

The Hamas terror gang took credit for the attack on Israeli civilians and said it was carried out "in revenge" for the killing of nine armed Arabs in Gaza by what Hamas says was an IDF shell. However, the IDF denies firing at Gaza today. The nine dead Arabs were in fact Fatah terrorists who were killed by the Hamas, in an attack on a "Presidential Guard" training camp near the Karni junction.

The IDF has initiated helicopter gunship attacks on rocket-launching targets in northern Gaza, but has not done so on a large scale. IDF commanders are meeting at this time to discuss a more serious response.

Minister of Strategic Affairs Avigdor Lieberman and Deputy Prime Minister Eli Yishai have both called for harsh retaliation for the renewed Palestinian Authority attacks.

On Monday, a rocket fired from Gaza caused a fire near a kibbutz – or communal settlement – in the western Negev. Three rockets hit the area on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, the Israeli cabinet held long discussions regarding the appropriate response to an escalation in the Kassam campaign the Gaza terror mobs have been conducting against Israel's civilians. However, it made no concrete decisions, other than the decision to meet again next Sunday.
