An Israeli-Arab Knesset Member has issued a call for a global boycott of Israel. Left-wing MKs passed a bill to establish an Arabic-language academy in Israel with the hope of encouraging moderation.
Israeli-Arab MK Taleb a-Sana (United Arab List) called upon the world to boycott the Jewish state Tuesday.
"The Israeli government is self-righteous and is not evacuating the illegal settlers from Hevron,” a-Sana said. “It is thereby trampling international agreements and rights and the international community should positively consider boycotting Israel, which is endangering the stability of the region."
A-Sana made his statements in response to the refusal of the IDF or government to remove Jews from a building located between Kiryat Arba and Hevron that was legally purchased by the Hevron Jewish community for $700,000 from a Jordanian agent.
Israel Establishes Arabic Academy
The Knesset voted to establish the world’s first Arabic-language academy in a non-Arab country Wednesday.
The bill was co-sponsored by Arab and left-wing Knesset factions. MK Rabbi Michael Melchior (Labor-Meimad), one of the co-sponsors, expressed his belief to Army Radio that such an academy would succeed in combating Islamic radicalism and would facilitate understanding between Jews and Arabs.
Melchior said the institute will research ancient linguistic similarities between Hebrew and Arabic.
