(IsraelNN.com) "We must understand the insistence of Morocco on its territorial integrity... [and that it] does not want to see installed a terrorist entity on its Sahara that would represent a threat not only for its national security, but also for the national security of the United states and their European allies." Thus stated US Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL) during his remarks at the signing ceremony of the free trade agreement (FTA) between Morocco and the United States.
Congressman Diaz-Balart is a member of the Commission of Internal Security of the US House of Representatives. He is also known to be supportive of Israel and has been a co-sponsor of a 2002 House Resolution opposing a unilateral declaration of Palestinian statehood.
The "terrorist entity" Morocco claims will be established in Saharan lands from which it "disengages" is the "Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic", proclaimed by the Algerian-backed separatist movement Polisario. The Polisario claims to be an organization fighting for liberation of the Sahrawi (native Saharans) from Morocco.
In his comments, Rep. Diaz-Balart also noted that Morocco was the first country in the world to recognize the birth of the United States of America, and has always sided with the USA.
