At a press briefing today, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo described government as "vital" and "essential to human life. Literally."

"I believe this has been transformative for a generation,” he says. “Think about when was the last time government was this vital. I don’t know, maybe in a war? World War II, when government had to mobilize overnight? But literally for decades you haven’t seen government this essential to human life. Literally."

He added that people should act responsibly by wearing face masks when out and about - which is now mandatory in NY State.

"Wear a mask and socially distance. That is your social responsibility in the middle of this overall pandemic. And when we talk about New Yorkers together and the spirit of unity and how people are helping one another and how tough we are and how smart we are and how disciplined we are and how we love one other? Show it. You know how you show love? By wearing a mask."
