Chief of Staff to families: 'Closure decision difficult but justified'

IDF Chief of Staff Major General Aviv Kochavi delivered a message to bereaved families at the flag ceremony for the fallen on Mount Herzl.

"The decision on the closure is very difficult; I understand you, but it is justified and important to respect it. The distance does not prevent closeness or deep identification with the sorrow, and even during this special period, we will do everything possible to remain a stable support for you.

"This year, too, IDF commanders and soldiers will visit every plot and grave, place an Israeli flag emblazoned with a black ribbon on them, and stand up to reunite with your loved ones. The thousands of flags that will be placed on the fallen graves will symbolize the heavy price that the State of Israel's defense mission exacts from us."
