Israel Agricultural Association Secretary Avshalom (Abu) Wilan participated today in a meeting of the Knesset Finance Committee on the effects of the coronavirus on business in Israel.
Wilan attacked the decision not to open markets such as Carmel, Mahane Yehuda, Tikva: "We haven't yet received one logical explanation from the government about the decision to keep markets closed. 30% of Israeli agricultural produce is produced for markets. The markets are all hurt by this.
"Consumers are exposed to rising prices, farmers and traders are in a financial collapse." He added: "We offered the government a solution that would be effective in enabling regulating the entry of people. Just like in supermarkets. There's no reason not to open. It should have been done a week ago already."
