In an interview on Galei Tzahal, MK Itzik Shmuli (Labor) explained the reasons why his party decided to join the unity government.
"We reached an agreement on an emergency national unity government, a government of equals, not a government in which we'll just be Netanyahu's [rubber stamp]," he said. "We had two options to choose between: a fourth round of elections; or a statesman-like decision to join the government ... This isn't the government of our dreams, but at least the agreement contains a clause stipulating the date when the prime minister [Netanyahu] goes."
When questioned on the provisions in the agreement concerning the application of sovereignty, Shmuli said, "We made sure that significant limitations were included, to ensure that sovereignty can only be applied with American agreement. We are making great efforts to make sure that [the application of sovereignty] doesn't happen."
