MK Uzi Dayan (Likud) addressed the leftist demonstration yesterday in Tel Aviv during which protesters were heard yelling, "A pity Netanyahu didn't drown in the Suez Canal."

"Such a demonstration of hatred should never occur here," Dayan said. "The right to demonstrate is protected even at the cost of the possible endangerment of public health, but no one has the right to call the Prime Minister a traitor, or to utter such words: 'A shame he didn't drown in the Suez Canal.' No one! Such a display of hatred is a danger to Israeli democracy."

The remark is a reference to a May 1969 operation, when Netanyahu jumped overboard, taking a box of heavy ammunition with him.
