The Chief Rabbi of Israel Rabbi David Lau has joined an international initiative for writing Torah scrolls. The project is being undertaken for the sake of unifying the Jewish nation during the coronavirus crisis. Rabbis in Brooklyn and Israel have joined together in launching the intiative and 200,000 people have already signed on to making a contribution to this effort.

When a Torah scroll is written, it is customary to make a contribution trhough purchase of a letter in the scroll. For the current project, a letter may be purchased for any amount with the idea being that every Jew in the world will be represented by one letter in one of the scrolls.
