Yisrael Beytenu Chair Avigdor Liberman expressed great regret at the passing of Rabbi Bakshi Doron.
"I was saddened to hear of the passing of former Sephardi Chief Rabbi, Rishon Letzion Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron, who was one of the important rabbis who worked for embracing and accepting Judaism. I particular remember how he said that the Orthodox monopoly on marriage in Israel must be canceled and freedom of choice in marriage allowed, something which was received with complete shock even among the more lenient rabbis of Religious Zionism. I send my condolences to the family and hope that his heritage will be protected and passed on to future generations."
