Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein said on Sunday "The order of the hour for the State of Israel is a broad unity government," explaining, "It was born long before the outbreak of the [corona] virus. I worked to establish such a government after the first and second elections. I sat with the representatives of the parties in my office and were on the edge of an agreement. Unfortunately, petty politics has repeatedly defeated national considerations."

Edelstein added, "Hasty political moves, such as electing a permanent Knesset Speaker and passing controversial legislation, aim to shut down the possibility of unity that the people want." He concluded, "The time for petty politics is over. I won't lend a hand to breaking conventions whose goal is to enable hijacking in the legislature."
