A civilian psychiatrist who provides services twice a week at Shikmim Detention Center was in contact with a confirmed coronavirus patient.
The doctor last night was tested and is now awaiting her results.
At the end of a nightly district assessment, it was decided to exercise caution and the Detention Command located 19 detainees examined by the same doctor and placed in isolation from the rest of the facility's inmates. In addition, 15 wardens were instructed to stay at home until the results of the doctor's lab test were obtained.
Public areas in the prison have been disinfected and the guards work in the secluded wing in full protective clothing until the medical exams are completed.
In addition, a warden from Nitzan Detention Center was in the proximity of a verified patient. She was tested and is now awaiting her results. For caution's sake, the prison guards who were at the jail in the last few days were located and about 50 guards were instructed to remain at home at this stage until results are obtained. The prison office and public areas have been disinfected and guidelines are being passed to staff and prisoners accordingly.
