Dr. Yisrael Bokser, a volunteer for Paamonim, a non-profit organization that works with the Israeli government to help citizens stay out of debt so they do not have to rely on government handouts, sees a silver lining in the coronavirus cloud. Due to the current crisis, Israelis are likely to reduce orders of merchandise from abroad, much of which comes from China. Last year, Israelis ordered 13.1 billion shekels worth of products from foreign Internet sites. "If Israelis would only order one-third less than they did last year from foreign Internet vendors," Bokser urged, "and spend it instead in Israel, that would mean an additional 4.4 billion shekels of purchases here, which would be a significant boost to the Israeli economy." Bokser is also of the belief that a pair of children's athletic shoes shopped for locally and in person are more meaningful to the child and the whole family than a pair ordered over the Internet from a foreign source.
