The helmet of Air Force Major Daniel (Danny) Gauri, who was killed in a 1984 training flight, was spotted this past weekend by a hiker in the Nachal Paran riverbed, about 10 kilometers west of the Arava community of Paran.
Following the hiker's Facebook posting, which included a photo of the helmet with the name Gauri, representatives of the Air Force's Investigation and Locating the Missing Branch contacted the traveler to identify the exact location where the helmet was located. After checking the information, a team was set up to locate the spot and return the helmet to the pilot's family, which was updated on all the details.
