The National Academy of Science's 2019 State of the Science in Israel report indicates a 30% drop in Israeli scientific research compared to other Middle Eastern countries, according to the Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation.
The authors of the document state that this is evidence of a declining investment in academic research by the state. At the same time, the report notes that the studies that do come out of Israel are considered to be of the highest quality. They say further investment in this area will make Israel compete against the most advanced countries in the region.
