US Ambassador issues Tu B'Shvat greeting

United States Ambassador to Israel David Friedman wrote on Twitter, Sunday evening, "Wishing everyone a happy 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat (“Tu Bishvat”), the Jewish New Year for trees and a reminder of the importance of environmental protection. Planting trees has been a Jewish imperative since antiquity."

Friedman noted, "So important is planting trees that a leading rabbi of the 1st Century, Yohanan Ben Zakkai, said that one with a sapling in his hand who hears of the coming of the Messiah should first finish his planting before going to greet his savior. Quite a message. Enjoy the holiday!"
