The Supreme Court has unanimously accepted the state's appeal against the decision of the Jerusalem District Court and reversed its decision to award damages under Section 80 of the Penal Code, to two defendants who were acquitted in the Jerusalem District Court, for defense expenses and compensation for the period when they were under arrest.
The two were charged with extortion, along with a snack stand owner who forgot a bag containing 120,000 shekels by people whom he provided hard liquor. The purpose of the extortion was to get the money bag back from the people where it was forgotten, after they refused to return it.
