Israeli and Palestinian Authority sources have confirmed to Walla that the PA's Preventive Security Agency has arrested a squad of Fatah activists who planned to strike Majed Faraj, the head of the PA's General Intelligence Service and his family.
The detainees, some former prisoners, are known as the associates of another senior Fatah official, Tawfiq Tirawi, who preceded Faraj and quarreled with quite a few of the movement's leaders. Preventive security personnel were also able to locate weapons and explosives possessed by the same squad members. During their investigation, the squad commander admitted that he and his men had planned to injure members of Faraj's family by detonating explosives in their own private vehicles. According to the same sources, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has been updated on the details of the case, but it is currently unknown whether steps have been taken against Tirawi and whether he is suspected to be behind the plan.
