The military prosecution summoned a soldier on Sunday for a hearing with the possibility of a criminal indictment for operational activity in Gush Etzion last March during which he shot an innocent Palestinian Authority resident to death and wounded another.
The soldier told investigators he thought there was an alert for a terrorist attack at the time of the incident. An Israel Defense Forces spokesman said, "The investigation revealed that the shooting took place in violation of the rules for opening fire and in an unprofessional manner." Channel 13 News reported that such a process is a rare occurrence, as the military prosecution usually does not file indictments against soldiers for operational activity.
