Jerusalem Rabbi Yoni Lavi is embarking on a new Hanukkah initiative beginning this evening: When the candles are lit, cellphones should be off.

Rabbi Lavi explains, "The magical family moments in front of the Hanukkah candles can be harmed by the virtual steamroller that draws us to it. Let's decide together this year to keep a clear and clean space. Thirty sweet minutes without screens and ringtones and no obsession with photos. Only us. Talk and smiles."
