Mayor Yisrael Porush of the haredi-religious city of Elad and Isser Shapira, who holds the transportation portfolio in the municipality, have asked the transportation and finance ministers to prevent a strike by public transportation companies, threatened to start on Friday.

They requested, in a letter, the transfer of budgets to the transportation companies in order to prevent what they call an "Elad transportation catastrophe," citing the public's significant ahd heavy use of public transportation, specifically for education, including thousands yeshiva students from out of town.
