It is estimated that Public Security Minister Gil'ad Erdan wants to bring a candidate for police commissioner for government approval in the next few weeks, subject to a determination by the attorney general that a permanent commissioner may be appointed by a transitional government.

It appears that the commissioner will be chosen from three candidates who are active major generals on the force: Acting Commissioner Moti Cohen, Deputy Commissioner Alon Asur and Jerusalem District Commander Doron Yedid. Erdan has asked them to submit their work plans to the police future and will probably choose the candidate according to the best plan. Legal officials believe the attorney general will approve appointing a permanent commissioner as well as a commissioner for the prisons service.
