An action committee of residents of Maale Adumim and the surrounding area has announced a public-awareness campaign and struggle against the establishment of the first waste incineration site in Israel near the city and surrounding communities, backed by leading environmental organizations.

The organizations said, "This is an unprecedented program, both in its scope and in its technologies. The program was approved without the possibility of public opposition and in a hidden way until the last minute." They say it will turn residents into guinea pigs for technology that is untested in Israel but proven worldwide as a cause of morbidity and increased cancer deaths and birth defects.
