After a year of sitting in the municipal opposition in Beit Shemesh, the Shas Party faction has signed a coalition agreement with Mayor Aliza Bloch, according the Behadrei Haredim website
Shas did not secure the position of deputy mayor but was given a number of other positions. Among other things, it was agreed to establish a religious buildings administration and a committee to prevent discrimination in educational institutions and to give Shas full control of the religious council, responsibility for the competitive bid committee, a role underneath the mayor, the Mizrachi [eastern-oriental Jewish] heritage culture portfolio on the city council.
