Residents of the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City are troubled by plans of the Jordan-based Waqf Islamic Authority to continue renovation of mosques and other properties in the Old City, which began in recent months.
Some of the properties are in the Jewish Quarter or immediately next to it. In a move designed to reduce internal pressures, in light of Jordanian concern over the US peace plan, King Abdullah II recently expanded the Waqf Council to include senior Palestinian Authority officials.
