Ben-Gurion University of the Negev has marked its 50th birthday and the 46th anniversary of the death of Israel's first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, by awarding the Ben-Gurion Medal, in recognition of figures who have made a significant contribution to Israeli society and the development of the Negev.
Receiving the award were Ibrahim Nassasara, an entrepreneur and social activist for Bedouin society; Singer-songwriter Kobi Oz; Professor David Faiman - Prof. Emeritus of Physics at the school; Chairman Tal Ohana of the Yeruham Council; Prof. Shimon Glick, and expert in internal medicine and endocrinology: Prof. Shaul Ledani, world record holder in the 50-mile competitive walk; philanthropist and businessman David Mirage; and Aviva Segev, a social activist in Beer Sheva and the Negev. In addition, special recognition was awarded to five graduates who are prominent in their public activities and make a mark on Israeli society, culture, economy or science.
