The far-left organization Peace Now has condemned Defense Minister Naftali Bennett's decision to build a Jewish neighborhood in Hebron, saying, "The settlement in Hebron is the ugliest face of Israeli control over the territories. To maintain 800 settlers among a quarter of a million Palestinians, they close complete streets in Hebron in the face of Palestinians and deprive them of freedom of movement and livelihood.

"Building on the wholesale market is a supplement of sin to a crime, a waste of public money and a blow to the Israeli interest. No future outline of a political agreement includes the Jewish settlement in Hebron and its expansion serves nothing but the messianic vision of an extreme minority."
