Transport Minister Betzalel Smotrich today accused the judiciary of creating bureaucratic barriers to infrastructure development.
"When talking about bureaucratic barriers to Israeli legalization, there is a very big contribution," Smotrich said at the 360 Infrastructure Conference of TheMarker Labels and the M.O. Piron in Dan Panorama in Tel Aviv. Following his remarks, some of the participants in the conference took issue and confronted the Minister.
"It's difficult to talk about removing regulation and bureaucratic barriers without lowering the habit of judicial and advisory activism," the Minister added. "Every public servant who works in the public systems knows that discretion and decision-making are very limited and that produces symptoms of small-mindedness because heads roll and state auditors and every planning process takes two, three, and four years."
