MK Yousef Jabareen (Joint Arab List), who was present at the Haifa court hearing today, attacked the decision to convict Sheikh Raed Salah.

"Everyone to whom freedom of political expression is dear to his heart should oppose the persecution of Sheikh Raed Salah. This is an unequivocal political pursuit that has nothing at all to do with genuine 'security' considerations.

"In a country where the Prime Minister and his ministers, as well as senior clerics who openly and explicitly incite against the Arab public, are not required to give account for their statements, Sheikh Salah's conviction is another step in the political persecution of the Arab public and its political and religious leadership, as well as dangerous radicalization as 'securityization' in relation to them."
