Zolgensma, considered to be the most expensive drug in the world, was administered in Israel on Thursday for the first time to two-year-old Liam Naji of Petach Tikva, a patient with the rare muscular dystrophy disease spinal muscular atrophies.

The drug should cure his illness completely. Dr. Ephraim Sdot, director of the pediatric intensive care unit at Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv, injected the drug. He said, "The operation went successfully and without complications. The effect of the drug will be seen in the coming months but we are all hopeful and believe that Liam will grow as a healthy and independent child."
