Argentine opposition candidate Alberto Fernandez was leading the presidential election with more than half the votes counted, according to the first official results published Sunday night.

Fernandez, a center-left candidate, won 47.21% of the vote compared to center-right President Mauricio Macri’s 41.42%. If elected, he could appoint former Argentine President Christina Kirchner as his deputy. Kirchner is accused of covering up the 1994 bombing at the AMIA Jewish center in Buenos Aires.
