MK Tamar Zandberg ("Democratic Union") has announced that she will not attend Tuesday's memorial ceremony for former Minister Rehavam Ze'evi and will submit a bill to cancel the commemoration day.

"The remembrance of Rehavam Ze'evi is a repeated insult to his victims, and his portrayal as a national hero sins against the historical truth and tarnishes the very Israeli definition of the word 'heritage' - and hence should be eliminated."

She added: "A factual investigation revealed harsh evidence against Rehavam Ze'evi in relation to fighting ethics, unwarranted killing, and abuse of corpses while endangering the lives of soldiers under his command. Serious evidence of sexual violence, sexual assaults, and rape by Rehavam Ze'evi were also cited over the years, some of them also against female soldiers he commanded."
