Communications Minister David Amsalem has apologized to the family of Michal Sela, who was allegedly murdered by her husband.
Against the backdrop of pre-indictment hearings for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on corruption charges, Amsalem told Channel 12 News after the murder that "the Israel Police must decide whether its priority is to investigate the prime minister's cigar, or the murder of women." Following the storm caused by his words, Amsalem explained that he had no intention of hurting Michal's sister with what he said. Amsalem added, "On the contrary, if I listened to the interview, I would give her backing and, of course, make sure to address the important things said there, but It mainly give her the feeling, as a government representative, that we have full responsibility for the personal safety of our citizens and really that there is someone to trust."
