The Israel Police have arrested two Or Yehuda residents on suspicion of selling tzitzit (ritual-fringe garments) that were not kosher according to halakha (Jewish law) while falsely portraying them as being kosher to a high degree.
Following a complaint by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, the police launched an investigation, during which time the suspicion was reinforced that the fringes were not kosher because they were tied by a foreign worker. Additionally, a Wednesday raid produced 250 garments in different stages of preparation and plastic bags containing fringe threads suspected of not being kosher. The owner of the apartment that was raided was arrested, as was another person. They were released to house arrest after questioning.
