Or Abramson of Karnei Shomron and Maayan Halberstat of Jerusalem, who face induction into the Israel Defense Forces, have petitioned the Supreme Court, demanding that senior defense officials and the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee explain why women are prevented fromcombat service in the armor corps.
Abramson told Galei Tzahal radio, "There should be people in this role who want to and can [carry it out]. It doesn't matter what their gender is.'' The IDF said the matter is being examined.
