This Sunday, the International Awareness Day for primary biliary cholangitis will be observed in Israel for the first time.

Previously known as primary biliary cirrhosis, PBC is an autoimmune disease of the liver which, without diagnosis and medication, could cause biliary tract infection and even the need for a liver transplant. There are currently about 1,000 PBC patients in Israel, 90% of whom are women aged 40-60, but there may be other patients who have not yet been diagnosed, as this is an asymptomatic disease.
