Security coordinators in 11 Jerusalem envelope communities were instructed on Sunday to collect military weapons and hand them over to the army by Monday because the communities are now the responsibility of Border Guards and not the Israel Defense Forces, according to Yisrael Hayom.
The localities in question are: Alon, Anatot, Beit Horon, Givat Ze'ev, Givon Hachadasha, Givon Hayeshana, Har Adar, Har Gilo, Kedar Zemani, Kfar Adumim and Nof Perat. The collection program is a continuation of the military's decision to dismantle the first response teams in these communities with team members becoming volunteers in the Border Guards. However, now they are essentially left without military weapons, with the exception of a few single weapons that will remain in localities for use by the coordinators and their deputies. The decision is causing a great storm among the coordinators and the residents of the communities who feel that their security is being abandoned by the IDF.
