Hurricane Dorian headed toward Florida after sweeping through the U.S. Virgin Islands on Wednesday, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
The National Hurricane Center said in its 11 pm update that Dorian was located 90 miles north of San Juan, Puerto Rico, moving northwest at 13 mph as a Category 1 storm with winds strengthening to 85 mph. The storm is expected to grow in size and could hit Category 3 status before reaching Florida’s east coast by late Sunday or early Monday. Fox 35 meteorologist Glenn Richards said, “This would be the strongest hurricane to hit Central Florida in over 30 years.”
