Israel is holding talks with Jordan regarding security prisoners with Jordanian citizenship in Israeli prisons completing their terms in Jordanian prisons, according to Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar. The name of Abdullah Barghouti, responsible for the murder of 66 Israelis in the Al-Aqsa Intifada, was mentioned in the context of diplomatic negotiations conducted by the Jordanian Embassy in Tel Aviv.
It was also reported that these contacts were apparently being held in an attempt to reach a "Shalit 2" deal that would release Palestinian Authority security prisoners in return for the bodies of soldiers and living Israeli civilians held by Hamas in Gaza. This coincides with reports that a senior Hamas delegation has held "important" talks in Cairo, which, inter alia, dealt with an agreement of understanding with Israel.
