Border Guards and military police stationed at the A-Za'im crossing in the Jerusalem area thwarted the attempt by 56 Palestinian Authority residents to sneak into Israel by bus, presumably in order to reach one of the beaches.

The bus raised the suspicions of forces staffing the crossing. They stopped the bus for inspection and were surprised to find that all its passengers, 56 children, women and men from Ramallah and the surrounding villages, did not have permits to be outside the PA. They were detained for questioning, along with the driver, an Israeli resident of Jerusalem's Sur Baher neighborhood in his twenties.
