Arutz Sheva has learned from a senior official that the Federation of Local Authorities (Mercaz Hashilton Hamekomi) intends to support Tiberias Mayor Ron Cobi's stance that the terms of Tiberias city council members have expired.
Cobi has asked the Supreme Court that a special council be appointed in order for the municipal budget to be passed. The official believes that the unexpected position of the federation, controlled by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's associate Haim Bibas, stems from Netanyahu's desire to strengthen the mayor as part of Netanyahu's struggle against the Yisrael Beytenu Party, headed by Avigdor Lieberman.
