Executive Director Villin Halichenko of Aeroflot, Russia’s largest airline, has promised to be alert and attentive to any calls for assistance from the Jewish community, and to do all that he can to assist them and increase cooperation with the Jewish community.

The promise came after a meeting this week between Halichenko and Russian Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar regarding the special needs of religious Jews, and the challenges they face, especially when stranded in Moscow due to flights landing on the Jewish Sabbath. The airline already serves approximately 30,000 kosher meals under the strict supervision of Russia’s Chief Rabbinate to passengers requesting kosher food.
